As Hurricane Milton approached in 2024, Michael Klein went to see an ophthalmologist in The Villages because he was seeing a wave of light in his left eye. He was told to see a retina specialist right away.

So not only did I deal with a hurricane that day, but the retina specialist told me, he says, “Michael, I believe not only is that the concern of the retina detachment, but I believe that you have choroidal melanoma cancer.”

Dr. Dagan and his entire team made it seem as if I was the only person that ever had cancer. The compassion, they were so empathetic and just, it was incredible what I experienced. And all of that, what seemed dark and scary, turned into really an amazing experience.

And when I rang that bell [chime ringing], this gentleman came over to me, and he shook my hand and he congratulated me, and then he started to walk away. And I went over because I saw that he had a three or four-year-old daughter who had no hair, and I'm sure she was going through some kind of brain cancer. And I actually went over and I knelt down before her and I spoke to this little girl saying that you will have long life and you'll take care of your mother and father. And then I went and cried. Very emotional.

And today is the one-year anniversary of his treatment ending.

I am cancer free and I walk a free man from that disease, but with great encouragement and offering hope to so many others. So, that's what I want to do going forward.
