The Course of the Proton Therapy Process:
A Treatment Whose Time Has Come.
We realize that cancer is a complex disease, affecting each person differently. So at the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute, every patient receives individualized care. Your personal team of physicians, nurses, therapists and physicists work together to care for you, every step of the way.
The first step in the process is to schedule a Consultation Visit with one of FPTI's physicians. During this visit, it will be determined if you are a candidate for radiation therapy. If so, the next step is to determine the most effective type of radiation treatment - Proton, Conventional or Brachytherapy. You will then be scheduled for a Simulation Visit. Your simulation may be conducted on an MRI (Magnetic Resource Imaging), CT scanner and/ or PET (Positive Emission Tomography) imaging devise. All three imaging modalities are available on-site at FPTI. Your doctor will use these simulation images in conjunction with sophisticated dose-calculating software to determine you most effective treatment with the least amount of side effects. See how it works.
Proton and/or Conventional Therapy treatments can take anywhere from one day to several weeks.
